Frequently Asked Questions

Why use the term "Artisan?"

I chose the name because of my deep belief that a fitness professional requires a high level of skill, scientific knowledge, and a life-long devotion to their craft. To quote wikipedia:

An artisan, also called a craftsman,[1] is a skilled manual worker who crafts items that may be functional or strictly decorative, including furniture, clothing, jewelry, household items, and tools. The use of hands and hand tools impart an individuality to each item lacking in manufactured goods.

da Vinci - arm studyThere are so many similarities between a good fitness professional and a traditional artisan. Artisans in ancient times were required to know about every aspect of their trade; builders needed math, science, art, etc. Some of my clients train purely for "decoration," while others have a particular "function" in mind. Artisans were the predecessors of modern mass-production, likewise NONE of my clients get those cookie cutter programs that are becoming more and more common these days. Lastly, the term artisan is commonly associated with people who build something beautiful, and to me, the human body is amazingly beautiful.
